The Philadelphia Phillies faced another win or go home game last night in game 6. Pedro Martinez faced off with pitcher Andy Pettitte from the Yankees. Pedro was not on last night and the Yankees won the game 7-3 and the series 4-2. Hideki Matsui had a big game with 6 rbi’s and was named World Series MVP.
This game was do or die for the Philadelphia Phillies facing elimination. Phillies ace Cliff Lee was on the mound today and pitched a pretty good game. Chase Utley started the rally with a 3-run homerun in the first and a solo homerun in the 7th. In the top of the 8th Lee gave up another 2 runs in the game which made it 8-4 Phillies at that point. The Yankees added 2 more runs, but Chad Durbin was able to hold off in the 9th for a 8-6 victory for the Phillies sending the series back to New York at 3-2 Yankees.
The New York Yankees are only 1 win away from winning their 27th World Series title in franchise history. They came in yesterday and had a 4-2 lead that was tied up in the 8th inning with a Pedro Feliz homerun for the Phillies. Then in the bottom of the 9th, Damon stole second and third base on the same play and Alex Rodriguez hid the go-ahead rbi off of Brad Lidge as the Yankees ended up winning 7-4 and take a commanding 3-1 series lead.
Alex Rodriguez finally made an impact in the World Series last night and it was game changing. He hit a controversial homerun, that had to be reviewed through instant replay by the umpires in order to make the call. When the call was made, it was indeed a homer. The ball hit a camera that was a little over the homerun gate in right field. After this, Cole Hamels was out of sync and just turned the game around. The Yankees won the game 8-5 and now lead the series 2-1.
Last night was another pitcher’s duo, but this time the Yankees came out in the wining side. AJ Burnett had 7 strikeouts and only gave up 1 run. Mark Teixeira ant Matsui hit homers in the 3-1 victory for the Yankees as they tied the series at 1-1.
Cliff Lee’s performance last night in game 1 of the World Series was unbeLeevable! He pitched a complete game and near shut out versus the New York Yankees. Lee added 10 strikeouts to his performance in a 6-1 victory in game 1. Chase Utley started things with not 1 but 2 solo homeruns. Cliff Lee even had some nice defense going on as well. Pedro Martinez will start game 2 for the Phillies tonight.
Finally, the Philadelphia Phillies have an opponent for the World Series by means of the New York Yankees. The Angels first scored last night but it turned out to be all Yankees in a 5-2 victory. CC Sabathia was named the ALCS MVP. The World Series begins on Wednesday in New York between the Yankees and Phillies………do I hear “Turnpike Series”? Who do you think will win the 2009 World Series?
