2009 BET Hip-Hop Awards Recap

“Jay-Z, T.I. and Drake were big winners at the 2009 BET Hip Hop Awards hosted by comedian Mike Epps.

In addition to opening the show with a rendition of “As Real As It Gets” off his “Blueprint 3″ featuring Young Jeezy, Hov won the night’s first award when he took MVP of the Year honors over Drake, T.I., Kanye West and Lil Wayne. Jigga also won awards for Best Live Performer and Lyricist of the Year.

Drake, who wasn’t present at the festivities won Rookie of the Year and Track of the Year for his appearance on Young Money’s “Every Girl” while T.I. won Best Hip Hop Collabo for “Live Your Life” with Rihanna and CD of the Year for “Paper Trail.” Since Tip is currently incarcerated, his wife Tiny accepted the trophy on his behalf. Kanye West also won multiple awards. The Louis Vuitton Don won the Producer of the Year and Make-You-Look Award (Best Hip Hop Style).

Ice Cube won the I Am Hip Hop award while Missy Elliot, Sylvia Robinson and Fatima Robinson were recognized as Three Women in Hip Hop for their contributions throughout their careers.

In one of the night’s highlights, some of the game’s best MCs went toe-to-toe during the Hip Hop Awards’ The Cypher. The first Cypher featured Joe Budden, Nicki Minaj, Buckshot and Crown Royyal, the second Wale, KRS-One, Gsan and Nipsey Hussle and the third one, Black Thought, Mos Def and Eminem.

On the performance side, Gucci Mane hit the stage three times, once for his own “Wasted” featuring Plies and on two other occasions to deliver songs with Soulja Boy and Shawty Lo, as well as Mario. Snoop Dogg, The-Dream, Fabolous, Dorrough, Nipsey Hussle, Lil Scrappy and Ludacris also performed. Goodie Mob treated the Civic Center crowd to a performance of “Cell Therapy” to close out the show. ”

Jay-Z Named “Hottest MC” By MTV

MTV was doing a top 10 “Hottest MCS” list to like the past couple weeks and last night wrapped up the last four spots. Jay-Z was named The Hottest MC. The list is a little controversial as I definitely think Gucci Mane should not be on it and Fabolous should be ranked higher. Below is the list:

1 – Jay-Z
2 – Lil Wayne
3 – Drake
4 – Kanye West
5 – Rick Ross
6 – Gucci Mane
7 – Young Jeezy
8 – Fabolous
9 – 50 Cent
10 – Raekwon

What do you think?
