John Calipari Signs With Kentucky

ncb_u_jcalipari_576

Well, he slept on it and decided to leave Memphis and head to Kentucky. Coach John Calipari is known for his recruiting skills and that is what Kentucky was looking for. He also has is a great overall coach who knows how to win games. Calipari has not coached in a major conference before (A10 and C-USA) and is now going to a major conference in the SEC. This will have an effect on recruits that were deciding to go to Memphis because of Coach Calipari and the recruits who will then decide to come to Kentucky. It will be interesting to see how Memphis turns out next season losing Calipari and Tyreke Evans who will opt to enter the NBA draft this summer.

After Kentucky fired coach Billy Gillispie, the first name as a possible candidate was Florida’s head coach Billy Donovan. Then on Sunday and Monday, Memphis head coach John Calipari’s name just came up intensively. There is even an offer up of 8 years and $35 million. This would make Calipari the highest paid coach in college basketball. He has talked to his players and said he will sleep on the decision which will make a big impact for both sides.

Kentucky Fires Head Coach Billy Gillispie

The rumor broke out after Kentucky lost in the NIT versus Notre Dame and today it was made official. The University of Kentucky fired head coach Billy Gillispie today. During his time, the school had 2 season with 13 or more loses and 8 overall in school history. Many blame Kentucky’s search committee for not allowing the coach to build a program he felt fit for the school. Now a good coach is heading elsewhere and Kentucky has to recruit more than just players for next season.
