It was a great opening day in the NBA yesterday on Christmas Day. 5 back to back to back to back to back game between ABC and ESPN which started at 12 noon.
The New York Knicks won the opening game over the Boston Celtics 106-104. Close game but a late foul put the Knicks up by 2 and they won the game. Carmelo Anthony had 37 Pts, 8 Reb, 3 Ast, 2 Stl, 1 Blk in the game.
The NBA Finals rematch was next between the Heat and Mavericks and this one was all one sided. Lebron James went crazy as the Heat were up as much as by 35 points during the game. James had 37 Pts, 10 Reb, 6 Ast, 2 Stl, 2 Blk in the 105-94 victory.
Current NBA MVP Derrick Rose went to LA to take on the Lakers in game 3 and led a rally that ended with the game winning shot with 4 seconds left in the game. Rose had 22 points in the 88-87 win. Kobe had the last shot but it was blocked by Luol Deng to seal the deal.
Game 4 was between the Thunder and the Magic. The Thunder held Dwight Howard to 11 points in the 97-89 win. Kevin Durant scored 30 points in the win.
The last game was between the new look LA Clippers and the debut of Mark Jackson as the Golden State head coach. It was close but the CLippers pulled off a 105-86 victory. Chris Paul had 20 Pts, 2 Reb, 9 Ast, 2 Stl in his debut.
The Western Conference Playoff games were set last night. A lot of possible scenarios were at stake and this is how it turned out:
No. 1 San Antonio Spurs vs. No. 8 Memphis Grizzlies
No. 4. Oklahoma City Thunder vs. No. 5 Denver Nuggets
No. 3 Dallas Mavericks vs. No. 6 Portland Trailblazers
No. 2 Los Angeles Lakers vs. No. 7 New Orleans Hornets
The Spurs eliminated the Dallas Mavericks from the playoffs last night and look like they are back to the good old Spurs. Tim Duncan had 17 points and 10 rebounds in the 97-87 victory. The Spurs will now play the Suns in the second round of the playoffs.
Manu Ginobili’s absence is being felt in San Antonio. Tony Parker dropped 43 points last night, but the Dallas Mavericks were still able to win the game 99-90. Josh Howard had 28 and the Mavs now have a commanding 3-1 lead in the series.
Tony Parker was not playing games last night as he scored 38 points in a 105-84 victory for the Spurs. The Spurs lost game 1 to the Mavs. The series is now headed to Dallas for game 3 on Thursday night. The series is now tied.
The Cavs looked in trouble almost into the 3rd quarter in today’s game versus Dallas. King James led his team with Maurice Williams back into the game and into an eventual blowout of the Dallas Mavericks by the score of 102-74. The Cavs are now 60-13 for the season.
